My family was fortunate. Our daily lives were not affected too badly, as my husband was still reporting to work every day and my son already attended Connections Academy, a virtual school. One thing that quickly became apparent, though, was our family’s need for an additional computer. We had given our son our old PC a few years prior and the only other computer we had was my laptop. While we had flirted with the idea of getting a new PC for a while, it wasn’t something at the forefront of our minds. Normally, before purchasing a computer, we spend months researching and looking for the best deal. However, we had an immediate need and there wasn’t time for our typical process. Luckily, my husband is tech-savvy and knows what he wants when it comes to computers. We took a quick look at what was available and narrowed it down to three potential choices. At the store, we ultimately decided on the PowerSpec G900. The determining factor ended up being the processor. It was March 2021, and this was the only available choice with AMD Ryzen 9. Despite the hefty price tag, this was the logical purchase.

Unboxing and First Impressions

Our previous PC had also been a PowerSpec, but pulling this one out of the box, we could immediately see the innovation and improvement. The mid-size case was beefier, yet more streamlined in a common sense way. A power button, along with two USB ports, sat right on the top edge. The top panel itself is a vent with a convenient, removable mesh. The glass side panel reveals all the inner pieces, including the closed liquid cooling system. My husband was most excited about this feature. The computer also has a customizable light system that adds interest and flair. Set up was quick and easy. In minutes, the computer was up and running.

Overall Use and Impressions

This computer sits in our living room and is used for a variety of purposes. Occasionally, my son will use it for school and I will use it for streaming my workouts. I also use it for my writing or to browse social media. My husband uses it for work purposes sometimes as well. The majority of the time, this computer is used for gaming though. My husband plays a variety of games on Steam and enjoys connecting the Oculus Quest 2 for VR gaming. As with all computers nowadays, there is no disk drive. We purchased a new portable disk drive for this purpose. Additionally, it’s easy to connect your phone up to control it on the PC, and sending information via Bluetooth is incredibly fast! Unlike the other computers in the house, this one is hardwired into our router, and does everything at lightning speed. The graphics are impeccable, and with liquid cooling, the computer never gets hot and stays quiet.

Is It Worth the Money?

My husband and I have been together for over 16 years and, in that time, we’ve purchased several computers. This one was by far the most expensive. However, I think it’s important to keep longevity in mind when considering the price tag. Knowing that the processor was state of the art and the graphics card was one of the best eased our minds. We fully expect this computer to last us for a minimum of five years. A year and a half later, it’s still going strong. We’ve had no issues with the computer itself. Windows 11 updates are another topic for a different article, though. We definitely think this computer is worth the money. It continues to do everything we ask of it. PowerSpec has proven to be a reliable brand, making quality products. This computer is a great choice for anyone in the market for a new computer, but especially for a family with a variety of needs.
