There are many websites where you can create your website for free. Some of these sites are Blogspot, WordPress, Wix, Odoo, website.com, etc. I found Google Sites the most accessible and most reliable website for publishing my first website. In this tutorial, you will learn how to create your website with Google Sites and link it to your google analytics account.

Google Sites — It’s Both Unique and Simple

What I like about Google Sites is the fact that you can create a website almost in a snap, without needing any special programming or website designing skills. Google Sites makes it very easy to showcase your or your team’s work, with easy access to all the material from Google Workspace - whether in a Drive folder, a Doc file, or a shared calendar. Google has created the themes, layouts, fonts, and other features with great care and efficiency. All these wonderful features contribute to making your website look beautiful and amazing. So your site will look equally fantastic on all devices, including, desktops, tablets, and mobile devices.

How Do I Start?

First of all, you need to sign in to your google account. Then search for Google Sites.

1: Create a New Website - Select a Template:

When you open the Google Sites website, you will see written “start a new site” on the left side of the page and below it, some icons/tabs labeled as Blank, Portfolio, Event, Help Center, and Project. You can find many more templates in the “template gallery” icon that is placed on the right side of the page as can be seen in the above image. From there, select your desired template. Please note that you must be logged in to start creating your website. Misbah Sheikh So from the template guide, I selected the “Portfolio” option. When you select one of the templates, you are asked to choose a theme for your website. A pop-up box will appear saying, “Create your own theme, which you can now use to create and customize your own theme in Sites.” Misbah Sheikh

2: Select a Theme:

When you begin with the “create a theme” option. You will be asked to enter a theme title as well as upload a logo and banner picture for your website. So add the theme’s title here and upload the images you want to use for the logo and banner. Misbah Sheikh Misbah Sheikh

3: Choose a Theme Color:

Now you will be asked to choose the color of the theme. Here you will see two options: Preset colors and Custom colors. You can choose one of two options and the color scheme you like. Misbah Sheikh

4: Choose a Font Style:

After you’ve decided on a color scheme, you’ll be asked to select a font for your website. There are several styles to pick from; you can use a maximum of two, one for the title and headings and the other for the body text. Misbah Sheikh

5: Create and Edit Your Website:

Now that we are done with all the initial steps, this is just your part. Design your website how you want and for what you want. Creating and editing the site is extremely easy: all you have to do is click, drag or drop. It’s very effortless, and you’ll surely enjoy it since there are no problems. The design will automatically be rearranged with a grid layout. Everything fits in the right place and can be easily moved, resized, or rearranged. You do not have to be an expert or a designer to create and design a website with Google Sites. Google makes it simple because it loves you. It saves you time and is absolutely hassle-free! 6: Preview Before Publishing It:

Don’t forget to preview it before hitting the publish button. Your website appears differently on different devices. Choose an option to view how your site looks on different devices:

7: Publish It:

When you initially publish your site, add a site name to complete the site URL. In the site name, you can only use letters, numbers, and dashes. The domain of your organization appears at the beginning of the URL and cannot be modified once published. After you publish your site, you can continue to edit it whenever you want. To see any new changes, you must republish the site. Misbah Sheikh

8: Connect Your Site to a Google Analytics Account

Click the settings button on the top right near to publish button. Select “Analytics”. If you don’t already have a Google Analytics account, sign up for an Analytics account. Find and copy your Analytics property ID from your Google Analytics account and enter it into the Analytics option in Google Sites settings, as shown in the image. Please note that it may take up to 24 hours for the data to show up in Analytics. Misbah Sheikh After you copy and save your tracking ID, the website will be monitored through your Google Analytics account. You can then see where the traffic is coming from, how many people are visiting your profile, what the sources are, etc. After publishing the site, you can share it with others by copying the link of your site and then pasting the link into a chat, email message, or wherever you want to share it. Have fun, and I hope you enjoy publishing your website with Google Sites. Best of luck!
