Google Meet is one of the largest video conferencing platforms in the world. Despite being owned by Google, the service isn’t safe from downtimes and errors.  One of the most common issues you’ll face on Google Meet is error 502. This issue is encountered when a Windows user attempt to initiate Google Meet. This status code means that Google’s servers received an invalid response from the server sending the information.  While this issue can be resolved with a simple browser refresh, some users encounter the problem multiple times.  If you’re experiencing this issue, we’ve got you covered.  Today, we will show you how to fix the error 502 issue while using Google Meet on your Windows computer.  Let’s begin!

1. Restart Your PC.

Before tweaking anything on your computer, we recommend restarting your system first. This should ensure that the error 502 on Google Meet is not caused by a temporary bug or glitch that occurred during runtime.  Here’s what you need to do:  Go back to Google Meet afterward to check if the problem is solved.

2. Check Google Meet Servers.

As we’ve mentioned, error 502 on Google Meet is usually caused by server-related issues. If this is the case, we suggest checking the platform’s status to ensure that the problem is not server-related.  To do this, you can visit Google’s status page to see if there are reported outages with the servers.  If there are ongoing problems with the servers, the best thing to do is wait. Unfortunately, server-related problems can’t be resolved on your end. On the other hand, you can head to the next solution if there’s nothing wrong with the servers.

3. Check Your Network Connection.

Slow or unstable internet could also trigger the error 502 on Google Meet. Since you are using an online service, you’ll need a stable connection to enjoy its services and features.  To check if your network is the problem, perform a speed test using Fast.com to measure your network’s upload and download bandwidth.  If the result indicates a problem with your connection, we recommend power cycling your device to refresh the link with your ISP’s servers. Unplug your router’s power cable from the outlet and wait for 5 to 10 seconds before plugging it back in.  Once done, perform another test on your network to check if the problem is solved. If not, contact your provider and ask them to fix the issue.

4. Change Your DNS.

For some users, they were able to resolve error 502 by changing their domain name server to Google. If you’re still experiencing this issue on Google Meet, we suggest changing your DNS as well.  Here’s what you need to do:

Preferred DNS Server: 8.8.8.8 Alternate DNS Server: 8.8.4.4

Apply the changes and restart your system. Try using Google Meet afterward to check if the problem is solved.

5. Clear Your Browsing Data.

Another reason for this error is if your browsing data got corrupted due to a random system issue. To rule this out, we recommend clearing your data and cookies to ensure everything is in order.  See the guide below to clear your browsing data:  Go back to Google Meet afterward to confirm if the problem is solved.

6. Disable Browser Extensions.

You can also try disabling your browser extensions if you continue to encounter issues with Google Meet. Some of your extensions may not be compatible with Google Meet, causing the service to malfunction.  See the guide below to disable your extensions:  Restart your browser and try using Google Meet to see if the error 502 is solved.

7. Turn Off VPN.

Virtual private networks are third-party services that protect your network and data from harmful entities online. They work by masking your IP address and filtering your activity to keep sensitive data secured.  However, some VPNs are not optimized and could cause issues with your network and affect its stability.  If you’re experiencing problems with Google Meet, try turning off your VPN.  On the other hand, you can also consider switching to other providers if your current VPN keeps giving you problems. We recommend using PureVPN for your needs. Unlike other services, it uses high-speed servers across various locations to ensure fast and reliable connections.  PureVPN also works with most streaming platforms like Netflix, Disney+, and HBO Max.

8. Contact Support.

At this point, the last thing we suggest doing is letting the professionals handle the situation.  Head over to Google Meet’s support page and contact their team to report the issue you’ve been experiencing. When submitting a report, make sure to provide your account details, the browser you’re using, and other necessary information.  You can also browse the other guides on their page and see if you can find other solutions.  That ends our guide on how to fix the error 502 on Google Meet.
