TikTok is one of the top social media platforms in the world and the fastest growing, with almost a billion users in 2022. It also changed the way people use social media and other platforms are adapting its short video format.  If you’re not convinced, tech giants like Facebook and YouTube already added their own versions of short video posts.  Despite its impressive reach and growth, this doesn’t mean that TikTok is flawless.  Similar to giants like Google, Facebook, and Twitter, the app has its own disadvantages and problems.  One of the most common issues on TikTok is audio problems. For some, the videos they upload on the platform don’t have audio. On the other hand, there are also users who reported that they can’t hear anything while watching on their timelines.  Most of the time, a simple update can resolve this problem on TikTok. However, it can also be due to copyright issues, improper configurations, or corrupted data.  Today, we’ll show you how to troubleshoot sound issues on TikTok.  Let’s get started!

1. Restart Your Device.

Before anything else, we recommend readers to restart their devices if they encounter sound issues on TikTok. This should reload the app’s resources and address temporary errors that occurred during runtime.  For iOS: For Android:  Go back to the app afterward and see if the sound issue is solved.

2. Check TikTok Servers.

System downtimes could also be the reason for sound issues on TikTok. If there are ongoing problems with the servers, don’t expect the app to work properly, since it heavily relies on the servers to deliver content.  To confirm this, you can use third-party services like Downdetector to view the status of TikTok’s servers.  If there are ongoing problems with the servers, the best thing you can do is wait for the devs to address the issue. On the other hand, you can head to the next solution if there’s nothing wrong with the servers.

3. Check Your Device Volume.

More often than not, users who report sound issues on TikTok just forget that their device volume is turned all the way down. Before doing anything, check your settings and make sure that your volume slider is turned up.  On the other hand, you should also check if your device is connected to a Bluetooth device, explaining why there’s no sound coming out of your phone’s speakers.

4. Check Your Network Connection.

A slow or unstable internet connection could also cause sound issues on TikTok. To confirm this, perform a speed test on your network using Fast.com to measure its upload and download bandwidth.  If your network is not running as it should, power cycle your modem or router to re-establish the connection with the servers. Unplug your router from the outlet and wait for 5 to 10 seconds before reconnecting it.  Once done, re-run the test to confirm if the problem is solved. If not, report the issue to your provider and ask them to fix the issue.

5. Try Other Videos.

The video you are trying to watch might not have any sounds at all, which explains why you can’t hear anything. Just to be sure, please try playing multiple videos on the platform to see if the issue is isolated to a few videos.

6. Update TikTok.

At this point, you might want to update the TikTok app if you haven’t updated it in a while. The version you are running might have an underlying issue or is no longer supported by the servers.  For iOS:  For Android:  Once done, go back to TikTok and see if the sound issue is solved.

7. Clear TikTok Cache (Android).

For Android users, we suggest clearing TikTok’s app cache if you continue to encounter sound issues. This should ensure that there are no problems with TikTok’s resources on your mobile storage.  Here’s what you need to do:  Re-login to your TikTok account afterward and check if the problem is solved.

8. Reinstall TikTok.

If you still experience sound issues on TikTok, the last option you have is to reinstall the app. This should fix any corrupted data on the app and ensure that you’re using the latest version possible.  Here’s what you need to do to delete TikTok on your device:  After uninstalling TikTok, go to the App Store or Play Store on your device and reinstall the app from there.

9. Contact TikTok Support.

At this point, we suggest taking the matter to the experts if you still experience sound issues on TikTok.  Go to TikTok’s Help Center, browse the guides on their page, and see if you can find any solution. On the other hand, you can also contact their customer service and ask for assistance regarding the issue.  That sums up our guide for fixing sound issues on TikTok.
