Walter Shillington Sometimes I fail miserably. Either the products I write about are of little interest to my readers, my articles are not well written, or I’ve chosen the wrong method of publishing. These problems could have been avoided if only I’d had a little outside help. This is where meetings come into play. In the business world, meetings are used to share information and ideas. This leads to accurate and timely decisions. Today’s review subject is the eMeet Luna Speakerphone. A Speakerphone ensures the point of view of everyone involved—even those that cannot be physically present at a meeting—may be heard. These devices can be paired to a phone or a computer running a software calling program such as Skype for Business.

The eMeet Luna, which weighs in at 10.4 ounces, is shaped somewhat like an overly large and flat hockey puck. The Luna measures 4.7 inches across and is 1.5 inches thick. Walter Shillington This speakerphone is enclosed within a flat-black metal case. Its perforated upper surface allows sound to be clearly heard from the speaker hidden below. Seven pushbuttons, mounted at the top, are used to activate noise suppression, answer/end calls, control volume, mute the microphones, connect Bluetooth, and turn the device on. A USB C charging input, Auxiliary in, Auxiliary out, and a locking device are located on the Luna’s edge. Three microphones, positioned to provide 360 degrees of coverage, are placed near the bottom of this unit. Rubber non-skid strips and a storage slot for the included Bluetooth dongle are located beneath the speakerphone.

The eMeet Luna paired without difficulty to my smartphone. On future occasions, a connection could be achieved by simply turning on the speakerphone. Even when the phone was located 25 feet away and separated by two walls, the devices quickly paired. My desktop computer is not Bluetooth capable. In this case, I needed to insert the dongle, provided with the eMeet Luna, into one of the computer’s USB ports. This allowed me to connect the two devices and join a Zoom conference.

Speaker Tests

Since my laptop is equipped with a tiny and ineffectual speaker, I usually don a pair of wireless headphones when I attend a Zoom meeting. While this works reasonably well, headphones do tend to become uncomfortable if the conference goes on too long. I decided to check out the operation of the speakerphone in a Zoom meeting and see if it could adequately replace the headgear. While sitting at my desk with the volume set to three, my caller’s voice came through crisp and clear. I adjusted the volume to its highest level and moved to about eight feet away. Even though both the air conditioner and air purifier were running, her voice remained strong.

Microphone Tests

My voice was clear and easy to understand when I spoke from a seated position near the speakerphone. As I rose and moved toward the door, voice quality continued to be excellent, but volume slowly decreased. Beyond the six feet point, I was forced to speak louder than usual. Walter Shillington

Noise Reduction

Although the Luna’s speaker is designed to respond best to frequencies in the vocal range, sometimes lower-pitched background noises can be detected. I positioned the speakerphone alongside my keyboard and, later, held it in front of my air conditioner. With the noise suppression system engaged, my caller noted that the only background sound she heard was the clicks as I turned the air conditioner on and off.

Battery Life

The Luna speakerphone is equipped with a 2,600mAh rechargeable battery. It lasts up to six hours and can be recharged within 2.5 hours.

User Capacity

One Luna speakerphone, placed centrally on a table, can accommodate up to eight participants. Two of these speakerphones may be joined using a special daisy-chain cable. With two speakerphones connected in this manner, up to twelve people, seated around a table, can participate in a call.

Software Compatibility

This device can be used in conjunction with calling software such as Zoom, Skype for Business, and WebEx. Walter Shillington Walter Shillington

Overall Assessment

This speakerphone is a reasonably priced product that is easy to set up and use. Sound quality proved excellent, microphone quality is good, and the Luna benefits from the capability to be utilized with a variety of different devices. The eMeet Luna Speakerphone is highly recommended.
