Walter Shillington A portable power station will be a helpful accessory if you own many electronic devices. These stations are powerful and versatile enough to charge several hungry devices simultaneously and usually include an auxiliary AC outlet. But power stations are not for everyone. They are large, relatively heavy, and burdened with hefty price tags. Most of us would prefer an inexpensive power bank that could be used to recharge our phone during a power failure or while traveling. A device small and light enough to store in a briefcase or purse would be ideal. Today I am examining a pair of portable chargers from EnergyQC. While not particularly fancy, these power banks are inexpensive and capable of charging a modern smartphone.

EnergyQC 5000mAh Power Bank Description

This tiny charger is about the size and shape of a Maglite. It is 4.3 inches long, 1.06 inches in diameter, and weighs 3.5 ounces. Walter Shillington The power bank’s side-mounted pushbutton is surrounded by a four-segment light that indicates the charge level of its non-removable 5000mAh lithium-ion battery. A pair of USB ports are mounted to the butt end of this power bank. The USB-A output is limited to 5V 2.1A, and the Micro USB input accepts 5V 2.0A. A short cable used for charging this device is supplied. This power bank can be fully charged within two hours. The time it needs to charge a phone varies according to the size and state of the phone’s battery. For example, it would require several hours to charge a completely depleted iPhone 13 Pro Max. And, since the capacity of this power bank is 5000mAh, it could only fully charge this phone once.

EnergyQC 10000mAh Portable Phone Charger Description

While small enough to fit in a purse or briefcase, this unit is best suited as an emergency charger for your home. The device weighs six ounces and is oblongly shaped. It is 2 inches wide, 4.1 inches deep, and 1 inch high. Walter Shillington Walter Shillington Like its smaller sibling, this power bank is fitted with a side-mounted pushbutton surrounded by a light that indicates the internal battery’s charge state. A pair of USB ports are mounted to the end of this device. The USB-A output is limited to 5V 2.4A and the Micro USB input can accept 5V 2.0A. It takes about two hours to charge this power bank fully. The time needed to charge a connected electronic device depends directly on the size and state of the device’s battery. For example, charging a fully depleted iPhone 13 Pro Max would require several hours. However, because the internal battery of this power bank is twice the size of its smaller sibling, it could recharge this smartphone twice.

Specifications

Brand: EnergyQC Name: 10000mAh Portable Phone Charger Model: EnergyCell 10000 Battery: 10000mAh lithium-ion Input: 5V 2A Output: 5V 2.4A Compatibility: Most devices Weight: 172 grams (6.05 ounces) Width: 50 millimeters (2 inches) Depth: 104 millimeters (4.1 inches) Height: 25 millimeters (1 inch) Color: Black (other colors are available) Package contents: power bank, power bank charging cable, and user guide

Overall Impression

These power banks are aimed at the budget-conscious consumer who, never-the-less, recognizes the value of a device that can recharge their dying smartphone during times when AC power is not available. Walter Shillington Walter Shillington The smaller unit is purse-sized, lightweight, and would be worth its weight in gold if you’re trapped in an airport and can’t call a taxi because your phone’s battery has just died. The larger power bank will keep your electronic devices up and running during those unpleasant and inconvenient power outages. While these devices are neither exciting nor feature-packed, they are capable, versatile, and well-priced. If the combination of good value and effectiveness is what you require, both the 5000mAh and the 10000mAh models are worth a close look.
