When it comes to electronics, Samsung is nearly unbeatable, and its latest crown jewel, the Galaxy Book Pro, is proof positive of that. Although Samsung is unrivaled in several categories smartphones, televisions, and storage, to mention a few—it has not had the same success with laptops, hence our qualifier. In general, the Samsung Galaxy Book Pro is worth the high asking price. The design isn’t particularly fascinating, but its slim profile and low weight of 1.05kg are truly remarkable. It’s an excellent laptop for traveling because you won’t feel conspicuous carrying it around in a suitcase or backpack. Its superiority to rival professional laptops that forgo ports in favor of thin, light designs is attributable to the microSD card slot among its multitude of ports. You don’t have to make sacrifices like that, as the Samsung Galaxy Book Pro demonstrates. With 11th-generation processors and plenty of RAM, you can easily run Windows 10 and any other app you desire. You shouldn’t expect to play AAA games or run high graphical workloads on it, but that’s not why you’re buying it. Its longevity in battery life is where it truly shines. Depending on the conditions, it can last anywhere from 14 to 16 hours. That’s an impressively long time, and it means you can put in a whole day of productive work on this without having to worry about plugging it in. It elevates the already-solid Samsung Galaxy Book Pro to the level of an outstanding laptop. To some extent, the expensive cost of this laptop is justified by the fact that it is extremely portable and has a long battery life, making it ideal for use while traveling.

Specs Sheet

Price and Availability

Standard model costs $1000 More expensive in the UK Slightly cheaper now the Book2 Pro is available

The Samsung Galaxy Book Pro is a flagship item, and as such, it comes with a price tag that is significantly higher than that of comparable products. The entry-level model costs $999.99 and features a screen with a resolution of 1080p AMOLED, an Intel Core i5-1135G7 processor, 8GB of RAM, and 256GB of storage space. In addition, there is a model with a 15.6-inch display that has a starting price of $1,099.99 and comes equipped with an Intel Core i5-1135G7 CPU, 8GB of RAM, and 512GB of storage. This is obviously a high-end laptop, and the price tag reflects that.

Design

Incredibly thin and light Small bezels around a bright, vibrant screen Good selection of ports

The Samsung Galaxy Book Pro is a gorgeous. It measures 304.4 x 199.8 x 11.2 mm for the 13.3-inch version and 355.4 x 225.8 x 11.7 mm for the 15-inch, so it’s sleek and thin. The 15.6-inch variant weighs only 1.05kg, which is astonishingly light for a 15-inch laptop and allows you to pick it up and carry it with one hand. Samsung was able to fit a huge screen into the Samsung Galaxy Book Pro without increasing the size of the laptop because to the tiny bezels around the 15.6-inch screen. A standard size keyboard with big, easy-to-press keys can fit in the available space. The keys of the Samsung Galaxy Book Pro have a satisfactory amount of travel, making it a pleasure to type and work on. It also has a numeric keypad, a useful feature that is typically left out of laptops due to limited space. There is a power button, which doubles as a fingerprint scanner for logging securely into Windows 10, located in the upper right corner of the keyboard, above the numeric keypad. Though there is no icon on the button itself, it is distinguished from the others by a silver border, which is a great touch. A sizable, snappy, and user-friendly touchpad sits beneath the keyboard. It’s great to see Samsung making use of the extra space afforded by a 15.6-inch laptop by maximizing the size of the keyboard and trackpad. The Samsung Galaxy Book Pro, despite its sleek form factor, has a respectable number of ports—an essential element in any professional laptop. There’s an HDMI in and two USB-C outs on the left. On the right side, you’ll find the audio jack, USB-A port (for usage with older USB devices), and microSD card slot. The shiny silver top complements the white body of this device, giving it a ‘Mystic Silver’ design. The Samsung Galaxy Book Pro is a sleek and discreet laptop that has just about everything a modern worker may need. It’s thin and light, the display is sizable without being overshadowed by thick borders, there are multiple input methods, and the keyboard and trackpad are both roomy and easy to use. This laptop’s aesthetic may not be the most eye-catching, but its primary purpose was not to dazzle but to satisfy.

Performance

Speedy load and run times Galaxy ecosystem is useful for Samsung fans Iris Xe Graphics are solid

When compared to other laptops available at this price point, the performance of the Samsung Galaxy Book Pro is absolutely impressive. Not only is it sleek and lightweight, but it also operates Windows 10 without any hiccups and boots up very rapidly. It comes equipped with a strong quad-core CPU from Intel named Core i7-1165G7, which can reach a maximum frequency of 4.7 GHz. This results in a quick laptop that is appropriate for day-to-day operations when coupled with 16 gigabytes of random access memory (RAM). Although there are no separate graphics, the performance of the integrated Intel Iris Xe graphics is quite satisfactory. It is capable of handling photo and video editing, and it makes a positive contribution to the Samsung Galaxy Book Pro’s overall performance. The display is vivid and brilliant. The speakers, on the other hand, are not quite as spectacular; they have a little tinny sound even when played at regular settings and get distorted when played at excessively high volumes. Because of the Samsung Galaxy Book Pro’s tiny and light design, there is not enough room to install speakers of a higher quality. This is likely a symptom of the design, rather than the cause. The fingerprint scanner is quite reliable and can be used to log into Windows 10 without any problems. The Galaxy Book Pro’s compatibility with other Samsung devices, especially smartphones and the Galaxy Buds true wireless headphones, is a major selling factor. In addition, the Samsung Galaxy Book Pro comes with a plethora of Samsung-made apps already installed. All users of Samsung mobile devices will recognize these apps, as they are identical to the ones that go with the handsets. It makes the Samsung Galaxy Book Pro and its smartphone and tablet counterparts more consistent with one another and allows you to sync data between the devices.

Webcam and Microphone

Lack of a 1080p webcam is a shame Microphone is okay

Because so many of us now work from home or make increasing use of video chats to stay in touch with loved ones and friends, it is absolutely necessary for laptops to be equipped with high-definition webcams and microphones of the highest possible quality. It’s a bit of a letdown that the Samsung Galaxy Book Pro only comes with a webcam capable of 720p resolution. The webcam on the Samsung Galaxy Book Pro performs its function adequately, however the lesser resolution results in a loss of visual detail. The Samsung Galaxy Book Pro comes with a microphone that is built in, and while it serves its function, it isn’t very impressive. You would prefer a little bit more of a “wow” factor with both of these when purchasing a laptop at this pricing.

Battery Life

Seriously good battery life Over 16 hours at 50% brightness 13+ hours with more intensive workloads

When it comes to the battery life, the Samsung Galaxy Book Pro absolutely blows away the competition. To be considered an Intel Evo laptop, it must have a battery life of at least nine hours. Battery life is one of the most crucial factors people have when shopping for a new laptop, and the fact that the Samsung Galaxy Book Pro offers such an excellent battery life has the potential to seriously affect people’s decisions.

Verdict

It is a Windows laptop, but as strange as it may sound, I found myself thinking of the super-light Samsung Galaxy Book Pro as if it were a really great Chromebook. The Samsung Galaxy Book Pro is lacking in horsepower, memory, and storage for demanding content creation or video editing jobs, but it is a joy to use for everyday tasks such as word processing, spreadsheeting, presentations, email, and browsing. The fact that there are too many outstanding ultraportables that can be configured with 16GB of RAM or 1TB SSDs prevents us from giving it our highest rating; yet, it does serve a nice niche at a reasonable price.
