If you’re someone who loves driving a good old-fashioned stick shift, you might have written off getting an EV. But before you turn your back on them forever, check out this TikTok video shared by @launchmode back in late February. Apparently, Toyota has patented a new manual transmission for electric cars. Say what?! Um, if Toyota is truly putting this technology into action, it’s a total game-changer, right? Of course, people who watched the clip have mixed opinions over whether or not a manual shift in an EV will actually fly. One commenter, @Steven asked a great question, saying, “How you gonna shift with no revs, just electronic noises? 😂” Huh. We really aren’t sure. Another TikTok user, @Norros.nk echoed that sentiment and said, “It’s cute…. But how can one enjoy a manual transmission without the sound and feel?” @Cody Christensen made a great point: “There are people who want manual transmissions and refuse to drive anything else. Sounds like a way to win them over.” Indeed. Car companies have to cater to their customers if they want to make sales. Then there was @drew, who made a spot-on comparison about the transmission, saying, “It’s like vegan beef…” HA! So true, right? Vegan beef. Manual electric cars. What will they think of next?
